Excuse me, can anyone tell me if they can read this? A quick note will be fine. There's no reason something I write down in my journal with normal ink and paper should show up in someone else's. I'm pretty sure it's scientifically impossible.

But I'm also sure that human beings don't normally hatch from giant cocoons, and if they did, they would hatch as babies. Except I did, and my brother River did, and Cara said everyone here does, so maybe 'impossible' is just something we haven't figured out the reason for yet.

So please let me know if you can read this! I don't think she was lying to me, but she might be misinformed, and anyway it's not good to just take someone's word for it when I can test the hypothesis myself.

Oh, my name is Rosalind.

I can read it, Rosalind! Oh, I'm Lucy!

You'll learn that nothing's impossible in Edensphere.

Hi, Rosalind! I'm Bridge! ^_^

I can read it, Rosalind. This is River.

Amazing! Lucy, do you think that it's the paper or the ink that transmits our writing? Or maybe some kind of effect when the journals are bound together?

[Written off to the site—"Note: letters appear as each is written down."]

Do other impossible things happen here?

Hi, Bridge! Do people learn to tell who is writing by their handwriting? I can see you use different ink than Lucy.

Of course you can, silly, you're sitting next to me. But you're right—I can see my handwriting appear in your journal as I write in mine.

That was what I meant. Mysterious devices, aren't they?

Very. I can't figure out how it works. Nothing seemed to happen when I tore out one of the blank pages.

Apparently they don't need to be understood to work. There are things in the world like that. Hatching out of a cocoon, for example.

I just like to know! It's interesting, don't you think? The more we don't understand, the more we can learn.

The cocoons were definitely very strange. I wonder how we got in them.

True. It could be an enchantment.

How, and from where? I have heard some wonder if we grew on the tree, but considering the content of my dream it seems unlikely to me.

Energy transfers through the journals as well, even though it shouldn't.

What kind? Electrical, kinetic...? Have people experimented on them?

From: [identity profile] ittybityprodigy.livejournal.com
Yeah, there's experiments that have gone on. How else would we know?

LET THE FRATERNITY OF SCIENCE BEGIN

Someone could have written a book about them or something. I'd read it. I think I like knowing how things work.
From: [identity profile] ittybityprodigy.livejournal.com
Yeah? You know too much and you die here. I don't think anyone's wanted to prove they know more than they let on.

[But he seekritly would love a book like that. It's so much easier than talking to people.]

Eta Beta Pi. Mmm, pie.

You die? Just for knowing about science?!

An enchantment? Like magic? I'm not sure I believe in that.

What did you dream about? I mean, if you want to share. Or you could just tell me if you don't want to write it down. I know it's silly to keep writing when we're both right here, but it's still so fun to watch our writing show up in each other's journal.

Considering, I've seen stickers somehow show up through the journals when people put them on a page, I don't think anything impossible with them. I'm Steel by the way.
From: [identity profile] ittybityprodigy.livejournal.com
Not science exclusively. Anything about the workings of Edensphere itself.

I wonder if they were special stickers. That's even more interesting—after all, ink is a liquid, so it can spread, but if stickers show up on all our journals, that means they've been duplicated.

It's nice to meet you, Steel.

Hey, Rosalind! How are you and River settling in?

Alchemy is right, though. You do need to be careful about how you ask questions here.
From: [identity profile] blindedmewith.livejournal.com
I've only been here a day, so I don't think I know that much. I just like science.

Thanks, though. I'll try not to die.

Is this Cara? We're doing all right. The other people in temporary housing are nice.

I didn't realize things were so sensitive. I'm not trying to pry into anyone's secrets, really.
